I would really like the most powerful plug and play option available. I don't care to mod stuff and rig up the springs, etc. I also plan to upgrade from my 17T's to maybe 19T's or Frankenturbos soon, so I may as well make sure I have the right coils.
I will have something shortly that doesn't require any spring modifications if you don't use the factory resistor. It will just be a stainless insert that goes into the top side of the coil. Really the only spring mod needed with the latest Eldor B58 coils if you use the factory resistor from the eldor boot is to cut them at the right length on the plug side (I provide the length required or I can even cut them for you if I know exactly what coil you are using).

The biggest non plug and play part is splicing in the wiring harness or using a wiring harness adapter. I recommend just splicing it, a good crimp or solder connector is always better than an adapter electrically and it is less bulky and can just be put inside of the wiring guide. If you ever want to go back to stock just buy a used injector harness or crimp new terminals on (I provide the stock style terminals and rubber seals with my kit).

I am running VTT B58 coils and they have been worth it for me. Stock or eldor it didnt matter I would always get misfires after a couple months. They are 100% plug and play and fit under the stock engine cover without modification.

With their $320 B58 coil kit....you still have to buy $200 worth of B58 coils to go with it, right? And then then different spark plugs to go with everything. That sure is a lot of money....for that price you better not have a misfire ever again.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I never had a single problem with my OEM Delphi coils on my car, and it was making around 580-ish HP at 25psi (before the piston cracked).

OEM B58 coils can be found for $26 at some retailers. The price of the kit also depends on which one you buy.

Mileage may vary on the reliability of the stock ignition setup. B58 plugs are an option with my setup. It also works perfectly with the stock style plugs.

So the price of the kits compared to new S55 Eldor coils is really just the cost of the kit which is ~$235 to 320 depending on the one you choose.

The B58 coil is a better setup than stock with more spark energy. Each car owner can choose if they want/need it for themselves based on their setup.

So you need different plugs and a kit to make B58 coils fit?

Either b58 or N54/N55 spark plugs can be used depending on what boots and springs a kit uses.

A mounting kit and wiring conversion is needed to make it fit.

I guess I will wait until my Eldors let me down. Maybe when I crank up boost above 22 psi or get larger 19T turbos later. So far with 17t's and 22 psi they have been perfect.

When I was first getting my costume tune done a few years ago, the tuner cranked it up to 27psi....after I made a pull and saw it get that high, I had him bump it down to 25psi...and that's where it stayed.

BUT...even at 27psi on E40 fuel, the OEM Delphi coils didn't skip a beat...no misfires or other issues (even though it was just a single pull). And I think the Eldors are "supposed" to have a little more output than the Delphis...but who knows. Not sure why so many people have issues with the OEM coils.....

Headroom is important too....

Just like a fuel system you want to have more than you need for the normal case.

Perhaps the temperature is higher one day, etc and then you have a coil let out.

I feel it is better to have more than you need and not use it. The cost isn't that high to upgrade coils compared to other upgrades. Over extended use it is less likely to foul plugs with the larger gaps that they allow, etc.

Just something to consider.
