BMW 250,000 Mile Club... Who's In???

I mean, other than this guy:

Windshield has been replaced, as has the water pump & t-stat, radiator, hoses, alternator, VCG, OPG, OFHG, VANOS solenoids, spark plugs, coils, engine mounts, window regulators, door lock actuators, xenon bulbs, angel eye bulbs, brake rotors and pads, fuel vapor pump, and windshield pump. Nothing out of the ordinary and only what I consider regular (BMW) maintenance over the previous 20 years. Original clutch, DISAs, wheel bearings, xenon headlights and starter!

Fluids have been been changed out every 100,000 or so by me or the previous owners. Average OCI has been about 10k miles. LL01 Mobil 1 by previous owner, Castrol and the occasional Liqui Moly by me. Regular Blackstone analysis every other year or so comes back great!

Currently the expansion tank is leaking at the seam and needs to be replaced. I need to replace the rear suspension and subframe bushings but I have no desire to do that job. Shifter bushings are sloppy and could use a rebuild. Probably guibos and CSB while there. I'm going to swap out DISAs as preventive maintenance sometime in the next couple weeks. Radio pixels are dead and this early style isn't easy to repair. I'd like to upgrade to a newer radio and have a clean screen. CDs don't eject well either. Really wish it had Sirius, I think that's the only option that it doesn't have a long with adaptive cruise control and comfort access.

Swapped out to anthracite M-Sport interior cuz' it looks AWESOME! Running Michelin ASPS4 which I consider the best tires available. I have amazing Llumar IRX ceramic tint which is life changing. Just added a radar detector.

I keep a spreadsheet of my expenses, and over the last four and half years that I've had the car, it's cost me an average of $2,114 annually to maintain. I purchased it for $3,700. Only negative is that it gets pretty poor fuel economy, and averages 21.9MPG for me. But I don't want to have to replace it with a Prius just to get better mileage! I really don't see any reasons why it can't easily go another 100,000 miles!

If you have or have had a 250,000 mile BMW, add it to the thread!

Let's show the world that these aren't delicate glass cannons!!!

It's just regular maintenance... There are a few annoying things like the oil gasket trifecta, But the rest is pretty much straightforward. Even the notorious water pump isn't that big of a deal IMO.
Just monitor and replace it when it's gone bad.

+1 checking in here, 252K miles on my 06 330i. I JUST had its first water pump failure yesterday afternoon, when it was hot AF outside of course. So new Pierburg pump will be delivered tomorrow from FCP and then continue on the road.

She still drives great, now that I have finally gotten the 330i back from my mother in law after like 2 years.

Yes... they're perfect motors! Everything else may break around them, but the motor itself just keeps on ticking (literally)!

Curious, which version you're running? My '06 (Which I still think is the best of them all, but don't tell the others I said that), runs its best with the 5w40 Leichtlauf.

3/4 of the time I use Castrol 5w40 Euro oil. But every now and then I'll go with 5w40 Molygen.

Congrats!! 250k is a big milestone. These cars are so hard to move on from - nothing else is anywhere close in terms of value.

I have a 2006 330i with 30kk km on it (189k mi). I just had my drivers front spring break, so I bought a replacement set out of a 335i with 50kkm on them. Other than that, the car runs well. FYI for anyone, all E9x RWD sport package coil over are the same (at least both E90 and E92)

At 300k the car developed a misfire that turned out to be spark plugs. I thought the previous owner installed the Iridium ones, but they weren't. I ended up running the NGK platinum plugs for 140000km. Should have replaced them a while ago. Now I have the iridium ones in there and car drives like new.

The previous owner got rid of the car at 181km. They had a couple big repairs around 160kkm and i think that scared them off.
Some of the maintenance been done before me and by me: ECC shaft sensor, valve cover gasket, vanos solenoids, trans solenoids/seals/fluid, windshield, belt and tensioner pulley, rear shocks, coils, brakes, new radiator and thermostat-(cooling system still doesnt work properly, see my other posts), O2 sensors, battery, and the plugs as above.

We're going to get a new car soon, and we have to decide between selling our 2011 corolla with 190k km or my 330i with 305kkm. I'm leaning towards keeping the 330i since I am not afraid to work on it myself and I think it's much better quality than the Toyota. The Toyota is also worth about $7k whereas my broken old 330i is probably worth $1k. I'd probably drive it for another year and a half, I think it's got one more winter left in it but probably not two. The Canadian cold does take a toll.

On the lower end of the spectrum!

09 328i: $1,940/year (most reliable so far!)

06 330i: $2,114/year (pretty much all DIY minus tires and AC compressor)

07 328i: $3,407/year (first year, will go down)

11 528i: $3,480/year (Mostly from first two years with a lot of dealer $$$ service).

13 X5 35i: $4,293/year (and counting, just had a new reduced power code today...)

Good data. How much mileage did you put on the x5 in that time?

Great records! My data is as follows…

09 328i: $1,765 per year. 118k miles of use. Some pretty extensive suspension upgrades in here. Basically an entire rework.

14 x5: $2,733/year. 61k miles of use.

Tires, everything included, except gas. I suspect the VANOS issue you had really drives the $/year up on the x5?

Valvetronic actuator, DME, valve cover (I should have done that, but took it in). Now I have a 2C57 code. Frustrating as we've only put around 5k a year on it. So around 15k over the nearly three years we've had it. I'm very jealous seeing your relatively reliable one!

Congrats on 250! My E46 (1999 328i) made it to 261k before the transmission went, wasn't really worth fixing at that point.

I was thinking that too.

I don't have the exact numbers but adding up what I can see in my order history I'm at about $600/year for each of my cars. Funny enough both of them are almost identical in cost at roughly $1000 in fluids/filters/etc, $3000 in preventative maintenance and repairs and $2000 in tires.

Got the 328i at 65k and it's at 168k now, so it's been $6000 over 10 years and 100k miles. Got the 528i at 127k and it's now 212k, so that's $6000 over 9 years and 85k miles making it slightly more expensive than the 3. I hope and expect to keep this one well beyond 250k.

I was just thinking that the E60 was starting to get expensive because I've spent about $1500 on it over the last year, but I guess that's not too bad actually! That was $750 for new struts and front suspension, $300 for a fuel pump and sending unit, $300 for an expansion tank and some hoses, $100 on a new voltage regulator/pulley/belt (this was the only time it's left me stranded), and $250 on the mechatronics seals.

Nice. I am at 69K miles but plan to take the car to 200K and beyond!
