Inability to reset oil service interval

Greetings.

I am the original owner of a 2006 330i with a build date of Aug 31 2005. The car recently surpassed 100k miles.

For some time I’ve been unable to reset the oil service interval in the BC.

I understand from searching the N52 ECU may have been time bombed and that a software update was possibly released to remove the restriction.

Trying to validate this information and attempt a resolution to the problem.

TIA.

I thought the limit of the oil change reset was around the 200K mile range. I know my car stopped being able to reset the oil maintenance at around 230K miles I think. Anyway I think Efthreeoh is the sitting expert around this matter.

I believe he wrote a post that described a lot of details.

Yes, the information I remember mentioned BMW engineers had coded the ECU to disable the function at 300,000 KM. My question was to see if time was also used to disable the functionality, but moreover if it is worth the investment in time to pursue the matter further. I can go into more details of what I’ve done to date if there’s interest, but the reality here is I’ve given the car to my youngest son and I’d like to see if I can get this last issue resolved. Thanks for your help.

The dumb ass BMW Engineer put a down counter in for the number of oil changes you can have I think it's set to 39 once it reaches 0 it cannot be reset .

I think BMW's fix for this was to disable the counter.

As others have mentioned, it’s based on number of OCIs written to memory rather than mileage. (Or at least that’s my recollection.) This explains why Efthreeoh went so many miles before bumping up against this. He observes the BMW recommended OCI (as do I), whereas others seem to have hit this snag much sooner.

There’s a Service Function in ISTA specifically made to disable the OCI counter. I went through this recently and it’s dead simple. There may be alternate ways to do this without using ISTA, but I’m not sure.
