EGS(TCM) VIN SWAP HELP
Hello i installed a new valve body to my bmw 328i 2011 (GM6L45 transmission) it came with the tcm as well which has the old car’s vin still written on it and it’s not letting me get out of park and when i force it into gear it either doesn’t move forward at all and when i get it to move it moves real slow. I’ve been trying to flash my vin into the module with WinFKP and a KDCAN cable but everytime i go to update zusb it can’t find a 0pa file named: “7586031” which is my new tcm’s ZB number. But the thing is WinFKP gives me another Zb number which is “7586456” which is ALSO missing from the sp daten files. i installed almost all previous versions looking for this file with no success. I went from v74 all the way down to v32 and nothing. Am i missing something here? (TO CLARIFY: i’m a complete beginner at this. any tips would be nice.) If not i’ll just fold and head to a local shop certified for this but they might just make me go bankrupt. anyways thanks in advance.

Where did you get your kdcan cable from? A high quality one is extremely critical when flashing the transmission. If it's a cheap ebay one, forget it, you will brick it.
If you just want to change the VIN, you don't need to bother with updating the ZB numbers, if it has come from the same model. Just use the ZB that's already in it, enter your VIN and flash it. Last edited by NZE90; 01-19-2026 at 03:39 AM.. |

NZE90 yes it’s still the same valve body, right now it’s still in the same place it was since i first started posting about it, i figured i could flash my vin into the tcm module and get it working but it’s been a lot more complicated that that.

E90 GM trans does not have an ISN check, or VIN check to stop you from going into drive. Come to think of it, none of the E90 series transmissions do this. You have another problem elsewhere, possibly from the shift valve/plunger not aligned properly with shifter rod. What are the codes in TCU ? |

I have put 2nd hand GM transmissions into these cars before and never had to change the VIN. They work straight away without doing that. I always changed the VIN anyway and flashed the latest software, but you don't HAVE TO do this. |

Is it even the correct valve body for your trans? There are different variants of the valve body, it's not a one size fits all scenario. Where is your old valve body? Can you not put that back in and at least have a car that drives? |
