questions about cali for modified n54

am I basically forced to sell this car before I move?

I knew about emissions and would've swapped cats back on but had no idea about the VISUAL inspection too!? it's a 2010 535i w/

pure stage 2 turbos
evo race intercooler
catless dps
dci
bov
and a few other things

All I can tell you is my N52 with a very stock looking BMW Euro airbox did not pass inspection. I had to swap in the NA box and re-test.

You need to find a "guy", ask around and talk to other people with modded, single turbo and tuned cars, they will know a "guy". It will cost more, but likely less than the loss you will take on the car when you sell it and it's not able to be smogged.

Put the stock cat and airbox on with stock tune. Do the bmw drive cycle procedures and you should be able to pass long as all the emission monitors are ready state

I don't think the stage 2 turbos would do well with the stock tune. there's also the issue of the intercooler - do you think most places would notice that?

I don't think the intercooler would be a problem by itself. Maybe if it was really visible and a different color or with graphics that were visible. But if it looks like a stock one, just bigger, it probably wouldn't get noticed.

BOVs 100% would though. Probably an aftermarket charge pipe as well. Inlet pipes are pretty hidden, IDK about those. Basically be ready to change it back to stock parts & tune every two years.

You wont pass smog with a custom tune..cali checks for stock tune.

Not sure if you ever got the answer to your questions, so what I do with my car is I install the OE DPs, and flash back to stock tune. I hear that guys with hybrid turbos can run the stock map, as long as you don't get into boost too heavily since that will throw codes.

I have the AFE dual cone intake that is NOT CARB certified, but I bought the burger tuning CARB sticker from their website that IS CARB certified and just stuck it on my intakes. They haven't really questioned it and I have been to 2 different places because my usual guy retired.

The latest shop that I recently went to did initially give me the a bit of trouble with the Burger tuning charge pipe, but I just told him the factory one was some crappy plastic and it broke, so I just went to the auto parts and they sold me that one. He was kind of seesawing back and forth but then passed me just fine.

My old smog guy never even questioned any of the stuff that was there.

My car has VRSF intercooler along with the rubber connectors and bands, and no smog shop has ever said anything about those parts.
