Hey. I have VANOS problems with my 320i. I have faultcodes for inlet an exhaust VANOS and when doing a test with ISTA the gears are stuck 120 degrees. during startup i have a harsh rattle sound, when cold i have a ticking/knocking/rattle sound but not as intense. It also has a rough idle when cold. when warm it is much better but it has the harsh rattle when revving at 1000 rpm but not over or under 1000.

I was suspecting that the VANOS gears are bad but what are the chances that both go bad? (both are showing fault codes)
And would it fail so bad that the VANOS does not react at all to the test?

I just did the timing chain and cleaned and testet vanos solenoids.

Hey bro! Were you able to resolve or find the cause of the problem?

I'm having very similar issues with my X1 N46: rattling at idle and below 1,000 RPM, lack of power etc
