Help!!! Crankshaft seal destroyed

So my belt slipped a while back and a lil bit got pulled into crankshaft seal. I got everything out but left it alone for a while because it was winter and I was ok with the lil bit of oil leak til spring, turned out to be a huge oil leak hense the dirty filthy bay. So I tried to tackle it today and this is what is happening. The seal had no surface for the tool to screw Into. And all that is remaining is the litter lining. Which I believe is aluminum or tin. Tried the puller but that's not working either. Any ideas on how to tackle this. It seems to be really stuck in there. Ordered another puller that looks like it may work or fail miserably. But won't be here til Fri. Has anyone had this happen before?

Order this one instead. Hopefully it'll work. Has anyone ever used this one and failed? If so how did it fail?

Is that puller threaded on the left piece? That's what my shop had to use to remove my crank seal in my 335i after it ate a belt. You should have better luck with it. I would highly recommend you at least get the valve cover off to look in the engine. My engine had belt material inside the oil pan and around the oil pump chain.

Yep I had just bought my first Bmw an 07 335i and I thought the filter housing leaking wasn't a big deal lol so I was driving like a moron with it. Belt slipped and ate it

Yes. It's threaded should be the better option from all. I see its gripping to be alot more effective.
Yeah just did the valve cover a few months ago.. but will do it again once I pull the seal off. Just got a shipment from FCP for the valve cover. Did oil filter housing and cooler gaskets about 2 months ago, thought that was the original leak.

What's crazy is I bought the seal protector a good while ago from ecs tuning.. still waiting for it.. ordered that and some M3 style fenders. And nothing has arrived yet. Kind off annoyed about that.

The only tool anyone should be using for the crankshaft seal. No matter what condition it's in. I struggle for HOURS with the other puller with absolutely not success. I literally was don't in 3 minutes tops with this new puller.

Ordered mine from extreme power house and it shipped within 1 day via ups. I had my belt go too but my seal looks great, no leaks and when I pulled the crank pulley it was clean

Also spray all around the pulleys with engine degreaser and hose it down to prevent any more oil from getting on the belt

You are absolutely going to need to take the valve cover & oil pan off to get rid of all of the belt shavings.

I think oil from the OFHG can also cause the issue of the belt slipping

I have never serviced this myself, so I am no help in regards to your question.

Although I will say, I know someone who had a N54 and the belt got sucked in same way yours did. After opening up the head there were pieces of the belt in the cylinders and crank case. Engine was 100% totaled, completely lost. Had to source a completely new engine. Not trying to scare you, but warn. You may know more than I, belt may have not got sucked in enough. But be warned if your engine grenades on startup after doing this service. Maybe tackle the oil pan gasket while you're in the engine and take a look at what particulate may have gotten into the oil.

To all future people reading this thread; if you have an oil leak anywhere near your belt, take care of it ASAP or suffer the same fate. Also just service your belts and pulleys normally, it's pretty cheap and easy.

One of many causes, but the OFHG is in the top 3

I meant my crank seal looked in really good condition and I there were barely pieces of belt there, every piece of belt I took off was from the top. My gaskets are good, my filter cap just pinched the o ring and squirted oil all over my belt. I tried to clean it as much as I could but I should have just gotten a new belt

Yeah Letting the car sit for a few days. Already sprayed. Going to spray again on sat then power wash it. Cover all the important bits like atl and sensor plugs n seal. Then hit it with a scrub brush. Also doing the valve cover Gasket again. Sat will be breaks, cover and clean day. Want everything done before I send him to paint with the new front end bits.

Cant do the oil pan now. No time and no money but I have some upgraded turbos I bought some months ago ready to go in, so when I do that, the whole engine will get an engine out service with the snail upgrades.
