Right door lock not going with the left

So my right door lock on my 2012 e93 is a bit messed up.
When opening the car, it only raises the left pin.
When opening the right door manually, it raises the pin just fine. I can also press down the pin.
However when locking the car, the right pin doesn't drop. The alarm still goes on but the door won't lock and can be opened.
Quite annoying, going back in time 20 years and having to manually press the pin every time.
What could be happening to cause this?
Thanks!

Most likely a broken gear inside the lock actuator. I think the part number is 51217202146 but you'll want to confirm for your exact model.

You can find repair kits online with new gears and I've had good luck with those. You can save some money but it takes time to open them up and rebuild them. Depending on price/availability it might be easier to just order a new one, but rebuilding it with that kit is an option too.

€215 oof.

That part does seem right. Are you sure that really should be the issue? And if I get that, would it be easy to replace by myself? Thanks!

It does sound like the door lock actuator. They are flimsy, and Euro $215 is a joke for junk.

I had a set of genuine BMW front replacements for the E90 (BMW sold them as a pair at a discount back then, because they failed so often. And also a revised fuse rating of 20 amps).

When the BMW junk failed again, I went with Uro aftermarket ones for the front. Then the rear factory ones started failing, I picked up eBay USD$30-40 ones. So far so good. Many carry 2-3 year warranties. Try one and see.

If 51217202146 is the part number then look at something such as:

I noticed the febi Bilstein version is €66 instead of €36 unbranded. That does feel a lot better than 215 so I'll go with that to be sure. Thanks everybody! Now the not fun process of opening the door panel...

febi bilstein door lock is working out great! No more issues!

Just makes me wonder, what if you don't repair a lock on your 2 door car and the second fails? That'll be a bad day right?

Imagine changing the actuator when the door cannot be opened. Huge PITA
