Outside mirror compatibility - pre-LCI to LCI

What's the 411 on this?

Have a '12 E91 with heated and auto dim mirrors. Have been interested in pre-LCI for the sleeker look. Do I need same features or is it possible to code them out? I think I'd want the same functionality but is it possible to use older mirrors with different features?

Not sure if this will help or not… but I’m in the middle of doing the same thing on my n54 swap (project). I’ve disassembled and painted the pre-lci mirrors. Just need to install them.

However… my new (to me) LCI m sport e91 is wired for heated mirrors. The previous owner removed the heated mirror glass and replaced them with unheated. It hasn’t impacted anything at all.

I did this on my E93. I don’t remember but I think the mirror glass didn’t have heating and don’t care about it. No issues.
