E92 w/n connect will state emissions for testing
Ohio: Went for emissions check to renew yearly tag. Tenant at station says no connection to state emissions test system. Went to another emissions test facility. Vehicle W/N connect. Use a self serve tester at the facility. Same result. Check fuse, 5X. Can’t remember now which fuse, it’s been a while. No communication with scan tools at OBD connector. Had a low battery replace, now have communication with scan tool. Tool light up and communicates via ODB connection. Using scan tool. It showed CAN BUS. Took to Indy repair shop. They confirmed CAN BUS issue. They returned car to me do to lengthy time to troubleshoot CAN BUS fault. They were reluctant to work discrepancy. Any DYI suggestions for troubleshooting?

1) Provide Last-7 Characters of VIN so folks with ISTA can see/post CORRECT wiring diagrams; 2) Furnish details, such as actual Fault Code(s) read, Make/Model of Scan Tool available to YOU, actual Fuse # (F74 powers BOTH OBD II & Instrument Cluster on your 2009 328i); 3) Any other vehicle malfunctions noted -- such as did Instrument Cluster light-up/ function correctly? 4) Attaching photos of vehicle is of NO help in diagnosing a D-CAN bus fault & merely makes your text difficult to read. Your tires are NOT causing the bus fault. ![]() Attached to NEXT Post, so as not to ruin margins here, are ISTA ScreenPrints showing your OBD II wiring & the Blue X14271 Connector at the JBE where the D-CAN bus wires from X19527 OBD II connector attach. There are TINY numbers on both the OBD X19527 connector, & the Blue X14271 Connector, which identify Socket Numbers. The White/Yellow wire from Socket #6 of X19527 (X19527/6) goes to X14271/17 (Socket #17 of X14271). Likewise, the White/Blue wire from X19527/14 goes to X14271/33. The Blue X14271 connector at the JBE (Junction Box Electronics) module is next to the Black X14272 connector. It can be accessed by removing the two T-20 Torx-head screws, on either side of the trim panel beneath the Glovebox. After removing those two screws, unhook the plastic catch on inboard side of panel, drop down, & remove the footwell light connector by "jiggling" & gently pulling away from light bulb. Lift/pry the latch of X14271 over the catch, & pull connector toward you. Inspect the Sockets of X14271 for any moisture or corrosion, particularly at Sockets #17 & #33, White/Yellow & White/Blue wires. Also inspect the pins of the JBE, particularly those which connect to X14271 sockets #17 & #33. Use Electronic Contact Cleaner (CRC brand/Walmart) to clean pins/sockets & reassemble. Check OBD function & report your findings. We can suggest NEXT Steps. If still need help, please provide info described above. George |

Resident hater checking in....
The issue stems from the "MPerformance" white tire lettering on a non-M car. I bet if you remove them the systems will then begin to work perfectly! Last edited by lookalikehuuh; 04-14-2026 at 04:29 PM.. |
