Still running the awe's and still love them, subtle blow off sound noise is still cool in my book. I did try to fit an aftermarket charge pipe a few months back, but the way they all mount with a small length of rubber pipe to the charge pipe sat them up too high and my Injen intake would not fit, so went back to oem charge pipe. Only tried it because I figured the oem one would crack eventually.

running Turbosmart Kompact Plumb Back. they're great and hold boost fine but I need more sound. I'm thinking of getting HKS SSQV.

The plumb back is the diverted valve style so ts not loud at all, I now have the Turbosmart race port now which is a VTA so it's fucking loud now, I think as Loud as the HKS

I see. So the race port turbosmart is the one to get if we'd like HKS type of sound.

Anyone have a Dual Port or Plumb Back install guide? Assuming they're the same. Can't seem to find one anywhere

How do these work?
Do they let air through only the plumb-back port at low boost, and then let air out both the plumb-back and vent-to-atmosphere ports at high boost? Is there adjust-ability?

The install is pretty straight forward.
I have the dual port and run it with both recirculating and vta. From my memory both the recirculating and vta exits are at the same height, so they will both let air out at the same time. There is adjustability on both bov's. How I have mine setup, one lets off before the other(didn't set it up like this on purpose), so there is a two tone blow off sound that I really like. I think it came with spacers to put in with the springs that i didn't use, and then you screw the cap on to compress the spring to adjust when the valve opens. turn to the right for more tension so that it opens later with a greater pressure differential and turn to the left for quicker response if you were running pure plumb back. Just have another person that can rev the car to about 3k and have your hand in front of the blow off to feel when it opens and adjust accordingly. With the dual port, I don't hear it until my car warms up and I am more aggressive with the throttle. I do hear it when i build a little boost in higher gears with moderate load in the 1.5-2k rpm range and abruptly let off the throttle. If you don't want to make a blow off sound, you can swallow the boost by letting your foot of the throttle slower. This is with inlets, down pipes, and dci. Inlets and dci really changed how the dual port sounded. inlets and downpipes were installed at the same time, so i don't know each of their affect on the sound. With Inlets and stock airbox, the dual port sounded bad to me at full boost (mhd stage 1) Inlets and dci made the blow off sound better under high boost, but i don't like the other sounds that came with the dci during daily driving. But the sound of boost at full throttle is why i keep the dci. |

If you wanted to, you could set one turbosmart dual port to just plumb back by plugging the vent to atmosphere hole and have the spring setting really low. And then have the other dual port just a blow off (or 50/50) with a higher spring rate. That way you recirculate if you partially let off throttle, and then blow off if you fully let off throttle while under high boost. |
