Arrow No car alarm in my 2008 328i, which one should i get? :-)

HEY GUYS!

I just bought a 2008 328i with no alarm I guess!?

When I press to unlock and lock on the Key-fob, makes no chirp/horn sound, just locks and unlocks and the clown nose does not blink or ever come on.

Cant believe this car came with no alarm!

Any suggestions on a alarm I should get that will work with my existing BMW key-fob and play nice with BMW's electronics?

Thank you!!

You car is probably pre-wired for factory alarm. Just get the OEM kit and retrofit yourself.

Where can I get a cheap one? Can you link me and/or send a YT video of this?

Thanks!

Bigger question is who's going to steal it?

One thing before you get into unravelling the wire harness under the hood and look for the alarm pin (of course, if the hood pin is not already loose and visible). Just make sure to check behind the upper part of the rear-left fender liner whether your car is indeed prewired.

There are plenty of guides and DIYs. Here's one:

It has been said multiple times throughout the forum that the prewiring for an alarm is a thing up until 2009. Although mine is not, and presumably it should have, as it is 2005.

I went to my local LKQ, pulled the full alarm system out of a car, and installed it into my car. I didn't even have to code anything. It just worked from the get. Probably becaues the alarm module was already coded in the car I pulled it from.

I think I paid like $10 for the whole system. Since I have 2 cars, I did that twice.

The biggest problem was finding an E9x that had a factory alarm installed. I must have checked at least 10-15 cars to find the 2 that I got, on multiple days, not the same day.

even back then bmw knew this was kind of useless...

if i do remember, you need 3 item at the junk yard :

- hood switch
- speaker under the rear driver fender liner (with the bracket)
- motion sensor in the mid dome.

If your car is pre-wired, this is a very easy job. you can see if there's a wire going nowhere under the hood, driver side

Then you code.

pretty much it.

Imo usefull when you have comfort access since the handle dont always register, or it register to many time when you wash the car. so you know when you trigger it lol
