Engine Swap n46 to n52

Hey,

I have decided to build another engine in my e91.
My n46b20b is going to make way for an n52b30a.
Now I have a few questions.
I know that I need new air conditioning pipes, new power steering pipes & new coolant hoses.
The engine I can arrive without problems with attachments.
The gearbox is also no problem.

The only thing I doubt and need your help with is the following,
I have to have a dme & cas module inc keys.
should these come from a 3 series or can I also use this from a z4 or a 5 series and then flash it with winkfp and the vo / fa of my e91?

I know it is cheaper to buy a 330i but this is a hobby ( its fun ) and so I am sure I will implement it.
And i have already completely converted my e91 to an LCI inc cic and combox

Call one of the well known tuners like bimmer geeks.

No US cars were made with the n46.

You will want it from an E9x. IIRC the Z4 doesn't have a CAS and I don't think the E60 has exactly the same module either.

Cas model nr : 61359395657
DME model nr :12147577970

both of them are the same on the e60/e90/e89

because the dme and cas are vin locked i need both of them from the same car.
the question is can i flash them with winkfp and code them to the vo/fa from my e91 using the vo/fa of my frm to copy

Ok, sorry for interrupting.

Still, call bummer geeks if you can afford the long distance, mate.

Greetings, I am new to this forum, I want to know which engine is compatible to make the change from one n46 to another, be it n52, n53 or n54 that is profitable and does not require so much adjustment or problems. or the m50, m52 or m54 family

I've always wondered whether its just easier/cheaper just to buy a similar car with an N52 engine in it. I mean E90s are fairly cheap nowadays even with the COVID used car premium we are seeing lately.

It would definitely be cheaper to just buy one, but the OP pointed this out earlier on.

I'd say the N52 isn't enough of an upgrade for the effort - throw a V8 in there - but given the OP is in the Netherlands, the car mods allowed are very tight so a V8 probably isn't an option.

A nice n52 or n53 from a 330 would be a ridiculously good upgrade over the 4 cylinder toaster n46 both in power and reliability. I'd say buy a crashed car with the engine you want and swap that stuff over to yours and if your country doesn't like engine swaps you swap the fucken vin number too lol

E92

Hi all,

I've just recently converted my e92 from n46 to n54..I only managed to get hold of a e91 which everything was transferred to my e92..The issue is that e92 originally drops and raises its windows 5/6mm when the doors are opened and closed, since my wiring is from an e91 that feature doesn't operate..appear it's your guidance If I could get it to work..aside to that my central locking doesn't work as well..would it be possible to make it operate again..your guidances are very much appreciated

I decided to swap the engine on my e90 from n46b20 to a n52b30, however im not really sure if the electrical wiring harness is required (I mean the body one) bc someone told me “n46 does not uses EKPS module which is a requirement for a n52” some help on this one? Or what should I do?

Yes, that's right. The N46 does not use an EKPM like the N52. That would mean changing the harness.

I was looking for tutorials of how to remove the harness but I didn’t find any. I already have installed the n52, I also have the harness of a 328i but I don’t want to die attempting to swap the harness and no one wants to do the job and get paid for it.
