Fuse 74 (Cluster and OBD) keeps blowing after going over bumps
E90 328i LCI. Basically title. The fuse blew when I went over a railroad crossing. Then I replaced it and it was fine until I went over the same crossing and it went again. I know that fuse 74 just feeds the cluster and the OBD and I dont see any cables that are chafed.
Any idea as to what this could be? Thanks guys |

I checked the entire loom that splits from the fuse to the OBD port. I bought a pack of fuses from amazon and will try to see when do they pop. The thing is that cables barely move due to bumps cause they are right, makes me thing its either the cluster or the JBE cause they have some mass to move and possibly short. Thats the best I can think of for now

You don't have to blow fuses to test. With fuse removed, simply test for continuity (Ohms/Resistance ~ zero) to Chassis Ground at X19527/16, Red/Yellow wire, as you manipulate the wiring harness. If the meter jumps from "Open Circuit/Infinite Resistance", you have a wiring/connector fault. Make sure the X19527 socket is firmly attached to chassis & wiring harness is secured. Check for moisture in sockets. George |

I see, so its either one of those. If nothing is plugged into the OBD could it still short out of nowhere? Kinda pointing more towards the cluster. I will try diagnosing using the fuses since I dont have a multimeter, seems the same. Wiggling cables until it pops.

UPDATE: removed the cluster, the harness connecting it to the car seemed to be free since the clip to anchor it was not plugged in. Gave it a good clean, plugged it in again and replaced the fuse. Took it on a long bumpy ride through a dirt road and seems to be fineā¦. For now
Although the red light on the cluster (damaged tpms indicating flat tire) seems to be fluctuating in brightness. Dunno what that means |
