Hey guys,I just picked up an E92 325i with the N52B25 engine last week—it's a really fun and cool car to drive! But when I lifted it up for a look underneath, I noticed the underbody shield is soaked with oil and quite wet. I checked around the engine bay: most areas look dry and clean, but right at the rear where the engine meets the transmission (bell housing area), the joint between the two is wet, with oil slowly dripping out. Could this be a rear main seal leak? A bit more background: I do most of my own fixes and upgrades, but I've never pulled the gearbox or engine out before. |

Hi there, it could be the RMS, but is most likely the oil pan gasket. Also the valve cover gasket will leak down the side in the same place, so it could be that as well. You have blue painted factory bolts, so the OPG has not been replaced (or they incorrectly re-used the bolts). Try to determine if the VCG is contributing to the mess, but focus your research on the OPG.

There is a small area you can see into the bell housing an you can see if the torque converter has oil on it that would indicate RMS
