xhp raised torque reduction
apparently raising the torque reduction in xhp gives faster and crisper shifts, has anybody tried this? im gonna be putting xhp on my car today

Yes, there's a shift speed custom setting too, as well as for throttle blips to play around with. Plus you can adjust shiftmap in D/S modes and various other settings, it's definitely worth it.

Experiment with it and let us know how it goes.....I haven't messed with that setting before. I have increased the "shift speed in M mode" values, which also makes shifts faster/harder.....but doesn't increase torque reduction. As far as the throttle blips settings...I pretty much turned them down all the way. Nothing worse then slowing down to a stop and having your throttle rev up on its own and jump the car forward when it downshifts......not sure who ever thought that was a good idea. No benefits at all when doing that with an automatic transmission...it's just a gimmick. |

You can set it back to default level or reduce it, I didn't find it "uncomfortable" even at max setting, at halfway at the moment. |

I haven't messed with my torq reduction yet. Sounds like I should though. I have the shift speeds all the way up for M-mode. Not overly rough at all. I have blips too up 30% for 3-2, 4-3, then 5-4 16% and 10% for 6-5. I rarely use 1st gear but have it down -8% for that. Like other have said having a hard blip 2-1 is kinda scary.
Anyone try Higher line pressure? Last edited by Yotaismygame; 04-28-2021 at 02:01 PM.. |

I just leave mine on........better to have and not need, than need and not have. And since these 6HP21 transmissions are rated at something like 330ft/lbs.......it's easy to exceed that with a mild tune, so more grip on the clutches is never a bad idea. |

This happens to me on some of my 2-3 shifts. Most of the time it's great but sometimes when i'm just puttering around and happen to be in M mode, its really jarring

So the question is if the super hard shifting like that actually makes the car any faster, or if all it does is just wear out transmission and driveline parts.

I'll activate it, if that's the case. What's the 6HP19 rated at? |

I think the 19 is rated just a little less than the 21......but I think they are both pretty much the same transmission. The 21 is just the "updated" version of the 19. There is a ton of tech documents you can find on google from BMW on all the specs for each one. They are pretty amazing transmissions.....nothing like the GM TH-350's I used to rebuild back in the day.

It's a slower blip/shift for sure but makes it usable if needed.

I rarely use 1st. Only if I'm on a hill stopped. Which then Ill shift to first after I'm stopped so it's not an issue for me. I also only drive in manual. Only way I truly enjoy the car. I had to edit my last post. I meant negative 8%

.....firing up an old thread. Has anyone been able to dial in some good settings for "TQ reduction up shifts"? If so...could you share them?
I'm still confused at what the setting does.....it says more torque reduction will make the shifts harder, but it kills engine power more during the shifts....isn't that counterproductive? Less torque reduction doesn't remove as much engine power during the shifts.....so it says the shifts will be slower....but shouldn't the car overall be faster since you are not pulling as much engine power? Is it harder on the transmission if you shift without pulling engine power? Is that pretty much what the drag shift option does? Why doesn't xHP get rid of the torque reduction settings and incorporate it all under a shift speed setting they they have for the manual mode? Any info would be great......just trying to understand the TQ reduction settings before I start tinkering around with them. |

Lowering TQ reduction - can reduce lag between shifts, slower shifts and harder on clutches as a result. We're probably talking very small amounts, I never felt any noticable lag between shifts. Just left it in the middle. |
