Then Vehicle Virals posted a video a week later that highlighted that issue, he got new injectors and got them coded and it sounded fine after that. I don't think it's a very common issue but AFAIK it relates to age/coding of the injectors. Might be worth picking up some Index 12s just for the peace of mind because who knows what kind of damage and wear could be caused by injectors causing that exhaust pitch. |

. Thought they would be older since I didn't see any receipts of new ones from the past 2 years. Anyway I checked the values and they were coded right. My next move is changing the injector on cylinder 2 since it was the only cylinder with a wet plug, if that doesn't work I guess I'll just start replacing them one by one until I find the one causing the annoying sound. |

Gonna replace my cylinder 4 injector in a couple of days. My '07 e93 335i starts up normally, cold or hot. Drives fine up until 2000 rpm, i.e if I keep it below 2000 rpm no misfires. If I give it just the tiniest bit of throttle and go above 2000 rpm, instant injector cut-out, misfire, but weirdly, NO engine light. It keeps doing that till I shut the car off and restart, and everything becomes normal again like the problem never happened. Changed out plugs a few days ago when this problem surfaced. Car is bone stock so I'm guessing the injectors are Index 1s. Will mix and only replace one like you did. Last edited by virtual_law; 02-27-2021 at 06:07 AM.. |

I would definitely do what I said above before anything else. Now in the event it wasn’t A bad coil pack and you did need to replace a injector, yes you can replace one only with the index 12 if you want. I did that. All were index 1 except for the one I replaced with 12. I left a link to Ebay where I bought the one I got. It always performed just fine. Be sure to read this whole thread it explains in my other post where I bought it on eBay and The importance of entering the flow rate of the new injector. You can use INPA to enter the Flow rate values of the new injector. There are videos on how to do that on YouTube. I believe Lee from BMW Fanatics has one. You will need INPA it’s a program that runs on your laptop. You’ll need a cable to connect your car OBD2 to the laptop. The cable you gotta buy. I got mine from BimmerGeeks. They helped me install INPA as well. First things first replace all 6 coil packs. I think that is your actual problem with what you described. You can switch the cylinder 4 coil pack with say cylinder 2 and see if the misfire moves to cylinder 2. If so it’s the coil pack. You can also do the same with the injectors. Be careful pulling out the injectors there is a special tool for it for a reason because you can’t just go crazy prying it out. Research the different careful ways to pull out an N54 injector. As for the diagnosis, so my new spark plugs were checked today and 3 of them are fouling. Mechanic also doubts two coil packs, so the plot has thickened. But you're right, I should start with the coil packs cause I do intend to do an Mhd somewhere down the line (just for those 0 rpm burbles) so it would make sense to renew now. With regards to Coils, should I only replace the 2 bad ones or replace em all in one go? |

Replace all. Get the Eldor brand. Something like Coil Packs or plugs be sure to buy from FCP Euro. If you don’t know anything about them. Look into it. They are god sent. Even your most service item (engine oil) has a lifetime replacement warranty. You pay for it one time as long as you own you car you will get free oil. You just gotta pay for return shipping. look into it. Now your plugs fouling? Yes it could be your injectors. Just replace the bad ones. New ones are very expensive now. Last I looked a year ago FCP had remanufactured index 12’s also for less. Lifetime replacement on those too. You’re planning on tuning your car. You better take advantage of FCP. Lol! Yeah subscribe to Vicular DIY too. No one is more thorough. That dude has replaced every part on the E90 more then once. Yeah be sure to get that INPA from either BeemerGeeks or someone like them. Only get it if they can give you remote assistance so that they can help you with the install on the laptop. That INPA install can get complicated where it might be over your head. The guy that helped me from BeemerGeeks name was Dylan. He was great. I was so happy with the remote assistance I kicked down a tip for him using PayPal. |

FWIW my 335i is now at 215k miles with mixed injectors (4 of the 6 are the original index 1 injectors) and (knock on wood) no issues whatsoever. Well injector related at least... my tranny throws a 4F8D (5-4 gear change slip) code after long trips these days.

Yes.....there are no issues with swapping injectors. BUT....you have to code the new injector in properly with the correct data that's printed on the injector. I use PROTOOL for this.
