X5M whistle at acceleration and loss of boost
Recently started getting some whistle at acceleration and sometime it seems like the boost actually dies.. (i hit the gas from a stop and the truck slows down for a sec or two before taking off again)
I assume i have a boost leak as crack in some of the plastic hoses under the hood. where should i start looking? 2011x5m |

Sounds like you already know the answer, if there are cracked hoses, replace them...
If you cannot readily identify the leak at that point, take it to someone who can smoke test it. |

Not that I'm aware of, there is no aftermarket solution or custom solution to replace the cracked ccv lines. Except with oem.

There are so many hoses, it really depends. The big hard plastic tube from the turbos to intercoolers, that pretty much has to be stock, but the hoses into and out of it can be replaced with silicone.
The CCV lines either go with new stock, or do a custom catch can setup, if you do some digging on here you will find examples. There is a good writeup on replacing the fresh air vents and ccv lines that also covers the turbo inlet and outlet stuff well. |

the guy did a smoke test and said that there was smoke coming from the turbo inlet piping right at the turbo. Is there a seal that i can replace or do i need to replace the whole pipe?
It looks like its just clamps there.. so i should be able to just use different clamps... what size does it use? |

Where did you get this done at and how much did it run you? also in the bay Area. I already replaced my back CCV lines the easier ones.

Where the fresh air vents go into the turbos there is a seal that gets hard, I have had to replace mine twice in under 3 years of ownership. But that seal shouldn't cause low boost, just a possible vacuum code.
It does take some time to get in there, so a mechanic charging under 2 hours to do it is entirely reasonable. That said, I would keep looking for a whistling under boost, I doubt that will be the real issue. |
