Turbo Timer

I am new to the whole turbo set up. I drove a 530i before but never owned a turbo car until now. My buddy owns a Evo and I remembered he had a turbo timer to cool off this turbo. which brings me to this topic. can we 335i guys use a turbo timer? any specific brand? has it been done?

Turbo timers are not required on the 335 and most turbo charged cars built in the last 10 years. Your car has a water pump that keeps the bearing in good order after the motor is turned off.

Turbo timers keep the oil circulating so it doesn't coke in the turbo. Wouldn't the oil remaining in the hot turbo run the risk of this?

Thre electric water pump remains running ~5 minutes after the car is shut off. The pump is moving coolant around the jacketted bearings to prevent the oil from coking up, when the temperature has reached the set point the pump turns off, ergo, this is in fact your car's turbo timer.

The pump is not secondary, it is the primary and only electric pump for the engine.

That is correct.....the electric coolant pump will run (when required) after shutdown to circulate coolant through the turbos for this very reason. It makes turbo timers no longer necessary.

Actually if you look at the dates cali*335 posted this up earlier in the year in April. It looks as though Totalelectronics has in fact used the search function and wantsd to comment on how successful hos search was which is why this thread has been brought back.

Everything is as it should be...

As others have said, no, you do not need a turbo timer since the coolant pump takes care of that issue.

Also, the other remedy for the turbo issue would be to keep the car running for a minute or 2 once you reach your destination (Since that is what a turbo timer would do anyway) to allow the engine and turbo to properly cool down.
