Exhaust shield loose

Hey guys, one of the exhaust shields on my 2008 335 Xi is loose. It's a small shield between the left-side mid-pipe and transmission pan/housing.

When I was much younger, I'd simply rip the offending shield off the car and toss it. I'm wondering, however, if heat from the exhaust may corrupt/warp the transmission pan gasket or housing if I do that....

Has anyone experienced the same issue and simply removed the shield? Will i warp something?
